Kilkenny is a medieval town with some great history, sadly quite a bit of it was knocked in the sixties but you can still stroll the laneways and see many of the historical buildings.

The Castle and the castle grounds are a must-see. A local tip - the backfield of the castle is great for a picnic, it's a wild meadow and there is also a lovely walk down by the canal just outside the castle walls.

If you are interested in witch stories then buy the book Her Kind by Niamh Boyce is a brilliant historical fiction read based on the story. Kytelers nowadays is great for pub food and the craic so definitely have a look.
